Audi
Audi is a German car maker which produces luxury cars and competes directly with Mercedes-Benz and BMW, also fellow German companies but the rivalry between the three of them is bitter. Audi itself is owned by Volkswagen, Europe’s largest car maker and the third largest manufacturer in the world after Toyota and General Motors.
Audi has its roots in the 1899 Horch Motor Company established by August Horch – Horch was ousted from the company in 1904 and established a new company; at first he tried to use the Horch family name but was sued. As a result he used the Latin version of his name (Horch means “hark” in German) – “Audi” – “to hear”.
Audi has a reputation for engineering excellence and highly functional design; it produces numerous concept vehicles and many of them end up as production models or at least, a substantial amount of the technology certainly does. Audi is a cutting edge developer of ecologically friendly engines and is also known for using a 100% galvanized body shell to avoid and reduce corrosion in all of its vehicles.
Audi has been in business for more than 100 years and is an automaker who makes luxury cars and SUV’s. They are a German automaker who was purchased by Volkswagen in 1964. The defining moment for Audi was in 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show when they unveiled the Audi Quattro, an all wheel drive system sport coupe. Before this the all wheel drive has only been seen in trucks and off road vehicles. It was the first high performance vehicle with this drive. The Quattro went on to help Audi make a name for themselves in motorsports and eventually it was integrated into all models of Audi’s.
The Quattro coupe is no longer produced but it was the just the beginning of things to come. The company is committed to developing cutting edge technology and is one of the few companies that utilize aluminum space frame technology. These frames are much lighter than steel frames which helps improve handling, acceleration, and fuel consumption. This is a company that produces quality luxury cars.
