The Dodge Company was started by two brothers, Horace and John Dodge. In 1914 they founded the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company. Before starting the company they worked as manufacturers of bicycles and auto parts. The company grew quickly and by 1917 they had a line of vehicles that included trucks besides their cars. In WWI Dodge cars and trucks were used as staff vehicles and ambulances.


The Dodge Company has undergone many changes and has reinvented itself over the years. For awhile they were producing vehicles that were just average and mediocre. The Doge lineup has had a significant overhaul and they have redesigned many of their vehicles to be able to offer ones that have aggressive styling and above average performance. It started out as a company that was formed by two brothers and was sold to the Chrysler Corporation in 1928.


Dodge had some memorable vehicles over the years, which included the classic muscle car, the Dodge Charger. They were the first company to introduce a new line of vehicles to the public, which was the minivan. They also wowed the public with the V10 powered Viper roadster and the all new Ram Pickup.

In 1998 the Dodge Company was under the wing of the German based Daimler Benz as part of the DaimlerChrysler merger. This brought an influx of German technology into the Dodge vehicles. The Chrysler Group was unprepared for the rising gas prices and increased environmental awareness, and was sold to a private equity group in 2007.

The brand slowly evolved into a division responsible for trucks and performance oriented cars. The 60’s saw the introduction of one of Dodge’s most iconic vehicles, the Dodge Charger. It was a muscle car made to outperform the other cars of that era. The Dodge Company made its mark in the history books with the introduction of the popular Caravan. It was the start of a whole new vehicle division, the minivan. The company also wowed the public in the early 90’s with its Viper Roadster and all new Ram Pickup.
