Fiat
Fiat is an Italian automobile maker and the largest Italian carmaker. Fiat based cars are constructed all around the world and the largest number were being produced outside of Italy in Brazil. The Fiat Group has a wide range of cars which include the small Fiat city cars to sports cars made by Ferrari. They also make vans and commercial trucks. Europe’s premier automotive trophy, the European Car of the Year award, has been awarded twelve times to the Fiat Group in the past 40 years. This is more than any other European manufacturer.
In January, 2009, Fiat and Chrysler announced that they were going to form a global alliance. This meant that Fiat would gain access to Chrysler’s North American dealer network in exchange for providing Chrysler with the platform to build smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles in the US and they would also have access to Fiat’s global distribution network.
Fiat is an Italian car manufacturer that was started in 1899. Construction of the factory in Lingotto was completed in 1922 and it was the largest in Europe. The factory occupied fine floors and had a futuristic test track on the roof and went on to become the emblem of the Italian automotive industry. In 1953 the first Fiat diesel engine vehicle was designed. In 1965 the economy was booming in Italy and Fiat set up numerous factories in Southern Italy. There was a focus on increasing automation of the manufacturing processes. In 1978 the Robogate system was created, which was a new flexible robotized system for assembling the bodywork.
In 1979 the auto sector was set up as an independent company named Fiat Auto. The brands included Fiat, Lancia, Autobianchi, Abarth, and Ferrari. In 1984 the company also took over Alfa Romeo, and in 1993 took over the Maserati Company, which was a prestigious sports car brand.
