Hyundai Motor Company is part of the giant conglomerate of the same name and based in South Korea. The company was founded in 1967 and launched the Cortina with the cooperation of Ford. In 1975 it launched the first Korean car, the Pony and this was exported to South America and Europe. By 1991, the company had developed its own engine which led the way to full-independence for car making.
Hyundai commenced selling cars in the US in 1986 and quickly attracted a following due to the affordability of the product. It further enhanced its reputation for value-for-money by adding a 10-year or 100,000 mile warranty in a concerted effort to revamp its image and become a world class car maker. Today, Hyundai competes worldwide with a wide range of models including saloons and SUV’s with a reputation for quality and affordability.
Hyundai is now classed as one of the top 100 most valuable brands in the world.
