Toyota is a Japanese car maker and the largest manufacturer of automobiles in the world with over 300,000 employees based worldwide. The company was created as a spin-off of Toyota Industries in 1937 and grew substantially in the post-war years.
Toyota owns the luxury car-maker, Lexus and the trendy hipster carmaker, Scion while it also controls Daihatsu and Hino Motors with significant minority holdings in Fuji, Isuzu Motors and Yamaha Motors.
The company is known for producing good-looking vehicles with a reputation for excellent engineering and reliability; the name Toyota is particularly well-known in the mass car markets of the world and it has achieved a remarkable degree of global penetration. One of the leading models is the Corolla and over 30 million units have been sold while this represents a minor total of the number of units the company has produced and sold. Virtually everyone in the world has heard of the name, “Toyota”.

The company owns the luxury car maker, Lexus and the trendy Scion but also has significant holdings in numerous other car makers including a controlling interest in Daihatsu as well as owning the Isuzu, best known in the US for SUV’s but a major automaker in its own right.
Toyota is the world’s largest car maker with over 310,000 employees based around the world and it has achieved remarkable market penetration and brand awareness. The Corolla is one of the best selling models and has sold over 30 million units worldwide but this is only one facet of the range and this enormous car company though it has been particularly hard hit by the downturn in the world economy.
